Week 7 Packers vs. Browns

The Packers faced another struggling opponent on Sunday as they destroyed the Cleveland Browns 31-3. Cleveland took the initial 3-0 lead early in the first quarter but then fell flat. For the second week in a row the Green Bay defense didn't give up a touchdown. Aaron Rodgers threw the ball all over the field for a total of 246 yards and 3 touchdowns to improve his QB rating to 110.8. This is second in the league to Peyton Manning. Ryan Grant also had his best game of the season rushing for 148 yards and one touchdown. This was a nice warm up game for the Pack as they face the 6-1 division leading Minnesota Vikings next Sunday in Brett Favre's return to Lambeau. Game time is set for 3:15 central time.

Week 6 Packers vs. Lions

The Packers faced the one-win Detroit Lions on Sunday. The game wasn't projected to be very close as both of Detroit's best players, QB Matthew Stafford and WR Calvin Johnson, were out with injuries. Those projections turned out to be very accurate. The Packers dominated this game on both sides of the ball. The final score was 26 - 0 but it could have been much worse. The Packers settled for field goals three separate times inside the Detroit 15 yard line. Aaron Rodgers also fumbled once inside the red zone, taking away a possible scoring opportunity. The only other negative thing that came from this game was the non-existent pass protection from the Green Bay offensive line. They gave up 5 sacks in the contest, giving them a league leading 25th sack of the season. Another intersting note from this game, wide reciever Donald Driver passed Sterling Sharp on the Packer's all time receptions list. Next week the Packers travel to Cleveland where they will face the struggling Browns. Game time is set for 12:00 pm central time.

First Quarter Recap

Well, the first quarter of the NFL season is complete and the Green Bay Packers sit at a paltry 2-2. At first glance a 2-2 record is nothing to be proud of. However, if you look at the competition we've faced there really isn't any reason to be too terribly upset. Here is a recap of the four teams we've faced so far this season:
  • Week 1: Green Bay Packers def. Chicago Bears- The Bears were predicted to compete for the NFC North title this season with the Packers and Vikings and haven't strayed from those expectations. Behind new starting quarterback Jay Cutler, the bears have started the season with a 3-1 record; their only loss coming at the hands of the Packers.

  • Week 2: Cincinnati Bengals def. Green Bay Packers- When the Packers fell to the Cincinnati Bengals I was honestly pretty depressed. Historically, the Bengals have been one of the bottom feeders of the NFL, and they weren't really expected to get much better. However, they have started the season 4-1, and if you remember correctly they shouldn't have even lost the one game that they did. The loss I'm referring to is the game against Denver in which Kyle Orton connected with Brandon Stokely on a miracle 80 yard touchdown pass with time expiring.

  • Week 3: St. Green Bay Packers def. St Louis Rams- Of the four teams the Packers have faced so far this season the Rams are by far the worst. They are one of four teams in the NFL who have yet to win a game. The Packers did exactly what they were supposed to do and left St. Louis with a nice win.
  • Week 4: Minnesota Vikings def. Green Bay Packers- This was a very highly publicized game, as it was Brett Favre's first game against his former team since his return to the NFL. It was a fairly competitive game, however little mistakes and penalties killed the Packers chances. Poor offensive line play was also a deciding factor. Hopefully the Packers will have better luck against their former QB when the Vikings come to Green Bay later in the season.
That's all for now, check back later in the week
